Stormcloud welcomes Don Savoie, also known as the "Professor of Rock," to downtown Frankfort this Memorial Day Weekend.
As a teacher of piano, guitar, contemporary songwriting, and history of rock and roll at the University of Notre Dame and Holy Cross College, Savoie is well-known in South Bend, Indiana.
According to the Department of Music at Notre Dame:
"Savoie has performed at many festivals and in concerts with such artists as Joe Cocker, Patti Smith, Rasey Lewis, Weather Report, Koko Taylor, Luther Allison and John Lee Hooker. His music style is 'blue-eyed soul' steeped in Memphis R&B, Motown and Detroit boogie and electric Chicago blues."
A Chicago native, Savoie cut his musical chops playing in blues bands in Ann Arbor and Detroit while he was a student at the University of Michigan. Savoie went on to tour the United States and Europe as a member of Vantage Point.
"He plays foot-stompin' music full of chunky blues chords and an effortless, rapid-fire repertory of right-hand riffs. He plays Jerry Lee Lewis and Stevie Wonder. He also plays guitar, a battered black Fender that he's had for decades: It wails, weeps, rumbles and roars."
Catch the "Professor of Rock" in downtown Frankfort on Friday, May 25.
